Genital Wart

Genital wart is among one of the primary causes of sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) in today’s world. The Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) is possibly the main virus behind any warts on human body.

Human Papilloma Virus actually includes a collection of 60 different viruses and is causing 90% of the warts on human body. Like many other sexually transmitted diseases, HPV usually makes a silent entry on human body – it is an infection which does not have any visible symptoms. Many people may not even be aware of their own disease or the potential risk of transmitting it to their partner.

For women, the genital warts occur on the outside and inside of their vagina, labia, on the cervix (the opening to the uterus), around the thighs or even on the anus. In men, genital warts are less seen. Mostly they are seen on the head of their penis sometimes they are also found on the shaft of their penis, on the scrotum, or around their anus. Sometimes genital warts can also expand in the mouth or throat of a person who has had oral sexual contact with a person infected with this virus.

How do I notice my own genital warts?

You should take close look at your genital area. If you are unable to see certain parts of your body such as your anus, see a doctor. Your doctor may be able to better identify the warts by examining the different private parts of your body. For women, a simple pap test can help detect modification on the cervix that genital warts can cause.

How can my genital warts be removed?

One way to remove your genital warts is to freeze them. This is often known as cryotherapy. Alternatively your genital warts can be taken off with a laser.

A treatment called the loop electrosurgical excision procedure (LEEP) can also be used to remove your genital warts. With this method of genital warts removal, a sharp tool shaped like a ring is passed beneath your genital wart and the wart is cut out of the skin. This is often very painful and requires half anesthesia.

Special chemicals and medicines can also be used to remove your genital warts. These substances can dissolve warts in the genital area. They may have to be applied to the infected area a number of times over a period of several months before the actual treatment is complete.

Medicines which are available at different stores to remove warts from your hands and legs should not be used for your genital warts. Your genital is very sensitive and can make your genital skin very sore.
