Plantar Wart

Plantar WartPlantar wart is a very common skin infection which appears on the bottom (plantar) side of your foot. They are crushed by the body weight of standing on them and can be spotted with tiny, set of blood vessel which looks like a dark pinpoint. Plantar warts are often very painful, especially when the warts are on a weight-bearing part of your foot. About 25 percent of teenagers and young adults have warts. Using a public shower tray or walking around on bear feet in the locker room after a workout session can increase your risk for developing a plantar wart.

Plantar warts can happen when HPV attack the body through tiny cuts or holes in the skin on the bottom (sole) of your feet. The virus often is runs into impure surfaces – such as the tile floors of public locker rooms, showers, swimming pools etc. Generally, antibodies in your blood should destroy HPV, but in some cases, the virus refuge in the skin and causes plantar warts to form.

I have plantar warts, what should I do?

Generally speaking, a plantar wart usually goes of on its own. However you should seek proper treatment if they are very painful. Your doctor will carefully trim the plantar wart and apply a chemically treated dressing on it. Your doctor will also give you proper guidance for self care. Sometimes it may take several weeks for the wart to dissolve completely. Good foot hygiene is a must for any plantar warts to be treated properly.

How can I prevent myself from plantar warts?

To rude your chances of getting plantar warts on your feet, make sure that you wear shower sandals or thongs when you use a public shower or locker room. There are plenty of antiseptic foot powders available in the market which can help you to keep your feet clean and dry. Don’t wear the same socks everyday, change and wash them frequently. The sweat from your feet may form bacteria which might later cause plantar warts on your feet.
